With each new iPad generation, Apple also releases two types of protection which are compatible with those newly released products. These are the Smart Cover and the Smart Case. The first one is used only to protect the screen of your iPad and it’s using built-in magnets to secure the connection. One the other hand, the latter one provides full body protection, and comes as a shell into which you place your iPad, which also provides foldable front side for the screen protection. These products are made for different types of users, and both of them were very profitable in the past.
Today we’ll be taking a look at the newest Smart Case which is compatible with the recently released iPad Air. The previous generation received mixed to bad ratings, and critics agreed that Apple needed to put more work into creating a case which needs to be the prime example of this product category. Now let’s see how Apple did with the newest Smart Case generation.
Many users will be happy to hear that the Smart Case for iPad Air snaps easily and without any problems. All you need to do is to carefully place the tablet and push it into the shell. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that despite easy and effortless installation this case holds the tablet firmly in its place. You’ll actually need to push harder to remove the tablet, which I believe is a very good thing for any case.
When it comes to design and attention to details, it’s clear that Apple decided to put a lot of effort into creating this product. I really liked the edges and how nicely they fit into overall aesthetics of the newest iPad. You can notice those nicely designed edges and enjoy in leather texture, but you won’t notice its weight or bulk which is a very nice balance of design and functionality. On the other hand, there are two things that I didn’t like. First, even though the corners are gently shaped, they can still dig into palms and skin if you hold the iPad for a while. The other thing is that the cover nicely fits, but since it bends inwards when closed this creates a small open space into which dirt can enter. This is not a major concern, but I needed to mention these details since this is the premium priced product, so you’re entitled to expecting the very best.
What’s also important to say is that you can use this Smart Case to provide a stand as well. As you can see from the pictures you’ll get two viewing angles, where one is perfect for watching a movie, while the other one is good for typing.
The iPad Air Smart Case is priced at $79, and you buy it in Apple Stores or online. It comes in only one material (leather), but provides six colors: brown, beige, black, yellow, blue, and red.
