Review Summary:

PROS: Very interesting idea. More affordable than most similar products. Easy setup and use. CONS: Needs a special iPhone case. Can be expensive. Slower charging speeds.

A while back we had a chance of reviewing a battery pack made by RAVPower. This company creates and sells all kinds of internal and external batteries, and the product we’ve reviewed didn’t really impress us, even though it was fully usable. In order for a battery pack to impress us, it needs something more than a reliable performance, like some surprising features, nice design, reduced weight and size, and similar.

In today’s article we are going to talk about yet another product made by RAVPower, but this is not going to be another external battery pack. We’re about to review RAVPower Wireless Charger, which challenges the traditional way of charging your iPhone.

In case you’re trying to stay in the loop about the newest trends in IT industry, than you probably know about Nokia’s attempt to introduce wireless charging technology to the market. Even though many wanted for the newest iPhone generation to support this technology, it will certainly take at least a few years until this happens. This created a lot of talk and hype about wireless charging, which made some 3rd party developers to create and offer their own solutions, and RAVPower is one of those companies.

RAVPower Wireless Charger 1

Wireless charging is a process that uses electromagnetic induction to charge a battery inside your phone. It uses some kind of pad onto which you need to place your device so that charging can begin. This also means that a device needs to support Qi inductive power standard, which is not the case with an iPhone. This means that you can use your iPhone with RAVPower Wireless Charger only if you place your phone into a special case. RAVPower Wireless Charger is priced at $40, but this doesn’t include a needed case which you’ll need to buy elsewhere. These cases come in all shapes and sizes, and they can be used as a standard protective cases as well, so this shouldn’t be an obstacle.

In order to use RAVPower Wireless Charger you’ll need to plug in the pad using the included USB cable and AC adapter, and you’ll be ready to go. Now place your iPhone into a case, and once you place it onto a pad it will immediately start charging. The pad comes with a small LED light on its frontal side, which signalizes if your phone is charging.

This can certainly be a very elegant and effortless way of charging your phone. This wireless charger is nicely designed and it actually nicely complements iPhone’s aesthetics. You can also find a lot of nicely designed 3rd party cases which support inductive charging, which means that design and functionality aren’t obstacles for using this technology. On the other hand, there are some drawbacks. First of all, you’ll need to spend at least $60 to purchase both parts of this system, and if you want a more sophisticated case the price will be $100 and up. Also, when it comes to inductive charging speeds, they are 25% slower than traditional charging which means that it will take longer for your phone to be fully charged.

Just like with any other wireless charging solution, RAVPower Wireless Charger has its positive sides and drawbacks. It’s up to you to decide which is more important to you.
