Using our iPhones it is simple enough to keep track of new releases in the App Store and iTunes Store as well. Apple has put a lot of effort into making it easy for you to purchase an app, or rent a movie, and I am sure you’re aware of this by now. Still, when I decide to buy a new movie using iTunes Store, I usually do a little research using the official IMDB app which contains a lot of useful information. What I am trying to say is that the iOS Stores need more elaborate options and information which is something that many would like to see, as I assume. This situation can be more complex is you’re trying to stay in the loop about music, games, movies, and similar. This is why there are so many iOS apps available which are designed to serve as an extension to iOS Stores.
One good example of an iOS app that’s designed to provide information on upcoming releases is Cover. This app can be downloaded and used for free, and on a first look I was very interested in trying it out. This app promised to bring much helpful information about music, games, and movies, which are things I enjoy on a daily basis. If I am not watching a movie, I am in a search for the next interesting one which is always waiting for me on the hard drive.
The main view of Cover somewhat resembles the App Store. It brings pretty much the same flat design principles and somewhat similar color palette. The top part is reserved for ads, which are usually informing you about upcoming releases and new in-app categories. Right underneath the banner you’ll find a couple of featured lists like Movie Classics, Most played on Spotify, and similar. What’s important to say is that the app doesn’t really play these files, but instead you’ll be taken to the iTunes Store where you can preview and download it. Cover is simply a depository of information about upcoming and already released projects.
The most interesting thing about Cover is that it combines three very active parts of the entertainment industry, but it fails to provide enough information in order to stay relevant for a long time. For example, if you’d like to see some information about a certain movie, you’ll get play its trailer, see the release date, actors, and short synopsis. This means that if you need more info, you’ll turn to Safari or IMDB. The same goes for music and games. On the other hand, I really liked the general idea behind this app, and I believe that it holds a lot of potential. I’ll be keeping my eye on this one, and I hope that its developer will continue working on Cover and adding more useful information. It would be also great is Cover implements some movie tickets service, or ability to create your own account where you can discuss with others about your favorites.
